Dental veneers have long been used to create the smile make over. With this treatment, it’s possible to transform crooked, stained, damaged or badly worn teeth into a brand new, straight, white smile. Veneers come in porcelain, ceramic or composite bonding substance, are coloured like teeth and are as thin as a shell. They are “cemented” to the front surface of teeth to improve their cosmetic appearance. Many dentists use the analogy that dental veneers are for your teeth what false fingernails are for your hands.
Veneers will last about 10 years and possibly much longer. It’s all about maintaining consistent and effective oral hygiene. A visit to the dentist for a check-up and clean must be scheduled at least twice a year. Most importantly, only use your teeth for eating food – don’t chew pens, crunch ice or rip open plastic bags with them.
There are two kinds of dental veneers :
- Composite veneers can be applied in one visit. Layers of resin are applied directly to the tooth, masking any damaged enamel, which is then sculpted to the correct shape and size to look just like natural teeth. Composite veneers are a good option if you have stained or slightly damaged teeth, such as a chipped or cracked tooth. Composite resin veneers can be repaired easily and quickly, although they are less resistant than porcelain veneers. Composite resin veneers cost less and a few visits to the dentist are needed.
- Porcelain veneers are long-lasting, natural looking teeth that are crafted in the finest detail to look just like natural teeth by specialist technicians in a dental laboratory. Porcelain veneers are strong and lasts long, more resistant than composite resin veneers. They look like natural teeth and mimic the light reflecting properties, resistant to the stains. Porcelain veneers are thin pieces of porcelain used to recreate the natural look of teeth, while also providing strength and resilience comparable to natural tooth enamel. This treatment is a good option for those who need slight teeth alignment, better tooth shape, size, and/or color.
For patients who are going ahead with veneers, you will need several visits to Circle Dental Bali Clinic to complete the treatment. Initially, your dentist will prepare the teeth by removing a tiny layer of enamel. This can be carried out without anaesthetic, but we are happy to use this if you would prefer. Detailed impressions of your teeth will be taken, which will then be used by the dental laboratory to produce your individual, personalised veneers that are exactly the shape, size and colour you have chosen.
